The Pentium II has a number of design enhancements that make it a
better choice for multiprocessors. Here are some SPEC numbers for
Pentium Pro and Pentium II under Linux:

VA Research System SPEC benchmarks

System RH Linux Kernel gcc SPECint95_base SPECfp95_base

VArStation II 266 4.1 2.0.27 2.7.2 8.92 4.98

VArStation II 233 4.1 2.0.27 2.7.2 7.86 4.48

VArStation Pro
200-512K 4.2 2.0.30 2.7.2 6.93 3.72

VArStation Pro
200-256K 4.2 2.0.30 2.7.2 6.68 3.36

VA Research System SPEC Rate benchmarks

System RH Linux Kernel # cpus SPECrateint95_base SPECratefp95_base

VArServer 4000
6612A 4.2 2.0.30 4 247 100

VArStation YMP
4621A 4.2 2.0.30 2 158 63.3

Unfortunately, I don't have the exact numbers handy, but the dual
processor Pentium Pro 200/512 gives a SPECrateint95 of only about 1/3
of the dual processor Pentium II.
