2.1.42 lockup

I just had a solid lockup of 2.1.42 SMP. No netscape involved this time,
but a backup job. I was using taper to backup some 300MB to a temporary
file in /tmp (i.e. on the same disk). About 50% into the job the world
came to a sudden halt. Once more not a single word in the logs.

System spec: cfr previous mail about a 2.1.40 lockup.
