As near as I can tell it's a PCI device that is an interface to another
bus. Like for example, the one I'm trying (not too successfully) to write
a driver for. It's an interace card that controls old electrostatic
plotters. They're on their own bus called an I960 bus. Another example
might be a PCI card that allows you to plug in PCMCIA cards.
