I have an SB32 and have gotten excellent results with version 3.8a of the
sound driver from ftp://ftp.4front-tech.com/ossfree/. The sound driver
included with kernels 2.1.28 and up is older and, in my experience, very
buggy.

Does your sound card use IRQ 7? If not, changing the value for SBC_IRQ in
/etc/soundconf or /usr/src/linux/.config should be helpful. If it is set
to IRQ 7, perhaps your problem is related to the new PnP parallel port
driver wanting to use that interrupt rather than polling the port (just a
guess).
