vfs stuff

A while back (further back than I've got easy access to at the moment
-- is there an archive of this list?) there was some discussion about
VFS changes, which I remember being concluded by someone saying that
there was a "new" vfs layer being developed to take into account SMP
and other new stuff.
Can someone with a better memory tell me who was doing this, or where
I can find out more information? Before anything is cast in concrete
I'd like to be able to make some dumb suggestions and be told why they
arn't good ideas... :-)
