Was the CPU busy for a while before you shut down and cracked the case open?
Linux does do that wonderful power-saving (and heat-saving) measure of
halting the CPU when it's idle (which is probably as bad for that subsystem
as turning it off and on all the time, but does at least keep it from baking).

This ObKernel is scary; I was hoping I'd be able to pick up a cheap Tulip
card made by Kingston or some such, and not have to worry about it...then,
my idea of "cheap" NE2000's wasn't cheap enough to have problems, so I'm
not too worried...
