AHA-2940 / recent kernels or hardware fault?

Just got this error message the second time... for me it looks more like
hardware (cabling?) fault than driver bug this time... which is it?

the system survived that... a few months ago I got some hangups and oopses...
but then most numbers (target,scb,tcl) were all zero...
