Objdump incompatible with Makefile of 2.1.32 ?

I've got Intel binutils 2.7.0.9, libc.so.5.4.23 and ld.so.1.8.9 and
2.1.32. Objdump no longer seems to have the -k -q and -o flags. This
means I can't compile a zImage. What am I missing ?
Also, after trying ld.so.1.8.10 I get __iob missimg symbol errors from
programs such as perl and netscape.
Any suggestions gratefully received.
