Let me add some research. I have a spare SCSI Disk. Therefore, rather than
erasing it which takes some time, I did....
I attempted to replicate your data corruption errors and crashes using a 1GB
test drive and was completely unable to generate any of them, either copying
from /dev/zero to an EXT2 file system (both 1KB and 4KB block sizes), or
copying to the raw device.
Note that I am running 2.0.29 with the performance fix to buffer.c I sent on
17-Feb-97. Perhaps this fix to buffer.c also avoids a data corruption problem.
