Thanks for the info. I think I figured out what the problem was. I was
reading from the CD in a loop, to test some problems with what I thought
was a bad motherboard (before I replaced it) and the CD got so hot you
would not believe :)
Kinda stupid, I guess. THere must be better ways to test a bad scsi disk
and motherboard...
Excessive heat is one of the most common reasons for intermittent device
problems, along with power supplies that are too weak to handle a heavy load
but are adequate for typical case. I rather doubt most CD-ROMs are designed
for continuous duty, and especially not in a typical cooling environment.
