2.1.27:attempt to access beyond end of device

today I got the following messages in the syslog:

Mar 2 16:07:20 zahn linux: attempt to access beyond end of device
Mar 2 16:07:21 zahn linux: 08:0e: rw=1, want=13738, limit=0

Possibly related to this was a process that could not be killed by kill -9
(/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-linux/2.7.2.1/cc1).

Kernel Version 2.1.27. 2 SCSI disks with 2 partitions each.
