Terminal reversed

Has anyone else had this happen?

I was running slackware with kernel 2.0.12 and for no apparent reason
users started complaining about black and white being reversed on their
screens. I never had that problem in Linux or Win95 dialup networking.
I recently did a total upgrade to the latest linux on tsx-11.mit.edu.
Many of the other little bugs and buglets were cleared by this, but now
the problem is even worse. I started using an old XT with Procomm+ that
was showing the same reversing color problem...only now characters from

the previous screen appear on following screens along with intermittent
white fg black background. Lynx is really bad now in that you can't keep
trash characters from scrolling down the web page off screen, and the
cursor doesn't line up with where it really is.

Pine is just a guessing game as to where you cursor is. I was hoping to
resolv this with the upgrade...to no avail.

ALSO:

Just prior to this I had to do a shutdown -r now, and when it came to the
point when the LILO prompt should come up...it now doe 01 01 01 01 01 01
01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 ........to infinity or reboot.

I tried using a DOS boot and doing 'fdisk /mbr' , but no go..it still does
the 0101010101 thing. Now I have to have a linux boot disk or lilo disk to
boot.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
