The NEC CDR-C251 (4x4) works just fine under Linux. I am the ide cdrom
maintainer for Linux, and I have one. In fact, if you are using the
2.1.x kernels, you will see this on bootup:

Partition check:
hda: hda1 hda2 hda3 hda4 < hda5 >
hdc: hdc1 hdc2
hdd: ATAPI CDROM changer with 4 slots

There is currently no real way to mount all 4 slots on different
directories. You will need to unmount the drive, change slots, and then
remount the drive. Sorry. You are welcome to try and implement this
featture if you want. To change slots, you can use the program appended
to the end of /usr/src/linux/Documentation/cdrom/ide-cd (you will need
to compile it yourself).
