I need help with RAM (I suspect a problem but ...)

Hello,

I have just upgraded my PC from i486 to Pentium
The configuration is:

Motherboard Tyan Tomcat IIId (award bios) - 1 Pentium 133 - 32 MB of RAM -
3 IDE HDs (250 IBM /270 Quantum/1080 Seagate) - 1 IDE CDROM

I have tried the kernel compilation with 'make -j 10' (filling the memory
and swapping in some cases over 8 megs) and at scsi drivers compilation
halted with the signal 11:

{standard input}: Assembler messages:
{standard input}:0: Warning: end of file in string: inserted '"'
gcc: Internal compiler error: program cc1 got fatal signal 11
make[2]: *** [constants.o] Error 1
make[2]: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs....
gcc: Internal compiler error: program cc1 got fatal signal 11
make[2]: *** [scsi_proc.o] Error 1
cpp: output pipe has been closed
gcc: Internal compiler error: program cc1 got fatal signal 11
make[2]: *** [scsi.o] Error 1
make[1]: *** [modules] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux/drivers'
make: *** [modules] Error 2
cpp: output pipe has been closed
gcc: Internal compiler error: program cc1 got fatal signal 11
gcc: Internal compiler error: program cc1 got fatal signal 11
cpp: output pipe has been closed

I suspect to have problems with RAM, but I want to be sure before
returning it to the shop for replacement.
Is the signal 11 a good alarm of bad memory chips ?
Is there some other way to find out a bad memory chip ?

How can I see if my memory chip is a 60 or 70 ns and if it is an EDO or
not ? (is there some signature or code on the memory chips that help
identifying them ?)

I have set up the memory as 60 ns memory because they have sold me this
memory as EDO RAM, but having not a way to identify the kind of RAM they
sold me, I can't be sure the bios settings are okay.

Thank you for your help.

Ciao,
Riccardo.
