Go for it. It's sufficiently early in the 2.1 development effort that by
the time it's time for 2.2, all these old drivers will have a chance to get

IMHO, there's no reason to drag the old interface along.

In a bureaucracy accomplishment is inversely proportional to volume of
paper used.
