basically, it doesn't change passwords anymore
reza:/home/reza #passwd karen

Enter new password:
Re-type new password:
/etc/ptmp exists, can't change password
reza:/home/reza #rm /etc/ptmp
reza:/home/reza #passwd karen
Changing password for karen
Enter new password:
Re-type new password:
unlink(/etc/passwd.OLD) failed: no change: No such file or directory

is it as simple as I need another passwd? If so, then could someone tell me
what function calls caused this to stop working (out of curiosity)
