compiled kernel 2.1.0 reports in as 2.1.3???

i have been running kernel 2.1.0 for almost as long as it has been out.
this am i recompiled it to add modules and all is fine BUT now my
system reports (at login and uname -a) Linux kernel 2.1.3.

any ideas what would do this?
