compile error in 2.1.5

When trying to compile kernel 2.1.5, I get the following error.
Note: I have applied the cx.patch (for cyrix processors) previously posted
to this list.
patmgr.c: in function `pmgr_read':
patmgr.c:119: fixed or forbidden register was spilled.
This may be due to a compiler bug or impossible asm statements or clauses.

Does anyone have any idea whats happening here?
