pppd: Unknown protocol (0x802b) recieved

I am getting "pppd: Unknown protocol (0x802b) recieved" when using ppp to
connect to my schools ppp server. I am using the pppd from slackware 3.1.
I think it is ppp2.2.0f. I am running kernel version 2.0.18.
The ppp server is a Shiva LanRover. The connection works fine. Any
ideas what the error message means? Is it IPX? I don't have ipx enable
in the kernel. I do have ppp enable as a modules.
