Re: boot hangs 2.0.9-10

I had a similar experience with a hang in the middle of boot with those two
kernels. As somebody had mentioned problems with CMD640 I tried to compile a
new kernel with the same options I always use, but without CMD640 support,
even though /proc/pci tells me I have a buggy version of it:

PCI devices found:
Bus 0, device 11, function 0:
IDE interface: CMD 640 (buggy) (rev 2).
Medium devsel. IRQ 14.
Bus 0, device 9, function 0:
VGA compatible device: S3 Inc. Vision 864-P (rev 0).
Medium devsel.
Non-prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0x78000000.
Bus 0, device 5, function 0:
Non-VGA device: Intel 82430ZX Aries (rev 2).
Medium devsel. Master Capable. No bursts.

This by the way triggers a question from me. The third device 5 apparently is
an Intel 82430ZX Aries and I have no idea of what that is? Could somebody that
just happens to know tell me, please? In the /dev directory there are two
devices with major 11, i.e. /dev/scd0 and /dev/scd1, which I don't know about
and all the major 5 devices are the /dev/cua* devices.

As far as I can see, my system hasn't had any problems with not having the
CMD640 support compiled in (12 hours).
