Compiling 2.0.0 problems

Help Please,

I am currently running Linux v. 1.2.1 , GCC v. 2.6.3
Machine config is Pentium 133, 32MB RAM, 2x1Gb EIDE disks,
I have attempted to compile the new 2.0.0 kernel, but receive

Procedure :

gzip'd linux-2.0.0.tar.gz into /usr/src/linux
re-made symbolic links to asm-386 and linux

make mrproper in /usr/src/linux

make config
Accepted all defaults, except DE204 for network card
and SoundBlaster card.

make dep

make clean

make zImage ' crashes out ' with the following ;

-malign-loops=2 -malign-jumps=2 -malign-functions=2 -DCPU=586
