ping/icmp question

I just compiled 2.0.0 for a no-CD machine here, and installed it
along with
a copy of Slackware 3.0 (just the A series disks). I thought I also
copied
enough of the libraries, from my 2.0.0 system, but apparently I
missed
something... 'ping x.x.x.x' now returns a message saying the icmp
protocol
is not available...

any clue what I missed? I'd like to get the network connection up
so I can
copy the rest of the filesystem via ethernet, rather than with
floppy-net
:-(
