Does it just freeze the remote session or also local stuff like the console
switching. if its the former and it then unfreezes welcome to ethernet. I suspect your
transfer probably ate the entire network bandwidth for a while. If its
getting one session frozen check if other sessions work and also look to
see if /proc/net/arp looks ok
