hmmm... I have a 64MB + 64MB swap machine, and I can do make -j's no problem.
I didn't get out of memory until I started 2-3 make -j's on copies of the
kernel tree -- I'm running the SMP kernel on the TYAN Tomcat II and wanted
to stree test it -- occasionally the 2nd or 3rd make would give out of memeory
errors, but the machine survived...
