Alternatively:

cd /usr/src
mkdir linux-2.0.0
rm linux
ln -s linux-2.0.0 linux
tar xvzf linux-2.0.tar.gz

Which is what I do, and saves copying across file systems as my / and
/usr are separate partitions.
