We have exactly the same problem here, is your machine doing hard network
stuff a la dial-in server for slip/ppp or routing ?
I suspect something in the skb allocation/free routines is wrong sometimes.
But luckily we got some messages in the syslogs. (not every time)
Mostly the machine crashes without being able to log someting.
I tried to log on another machine with no effect.

The bash problem appeared here too.

I tried one thing on 1.99.14: in /usr/src/linux/include/linux/skbuff.h
i defined CONFIG_SKB_CHECK 1 which gave me some more messages in the
syslog that showed clearly that there must be something wrong.

But i still have no idea how to fix that.
