It is unfortunate that we compare Linux to BSD*. BSD may be good or bad.
It is irrelevant. Linux is making a big name right now on the commercial
market place. BSD is going nowhere there. Comparing the two is bad for
Linux.

In fact, what could be devised is a benchmark comparing NT and Linux
and potentially other Unices such as SCO and Solaris (it has been shown
that sparc linux out perform SunOS and Solaris in many area).

I suspect we can find some PC server benchmark (Used to compare lanman,
Nt and Novell for example) and try this with Linux/Samba. And then use
a tweaked (not much) Byte Benchmark on NT to compare general purpose
performance.

The fact that the Byte Benchmark is not the best is not important. It is
one that byte has used for a long time.

Well, all this is purely "marketing" stuff. With the advent of Linux 2.0,
it would give something to talk about in the press.
