Floating Point Exception in 1.3.77

Just FYI:
I tried kernel 1.3.77. "top" doesn't work, giving "Floating Point
Exception"; "free" doesn't work right; "ps -aux" gives "Floating Point
Exception", though "ps -u" works.
My system: 486/DX2 50, gcc-2.7.2.l.3, libg++2.7.1.4, binutils-2.6.0.10,
libc-5.3.8, ld.so-7.14, and every thing else form slackware-3.0.
