Upgrading to slackware 3.0 problems

I was using 1.2.13 non ELF before last evening.

1) At boot time I get a LONG pause after the line
"ide0 primary disk found on irq 14"

What is causing the long delay. It never did this before???

2) My modem program (ZyXEL-1.5) is reporting "invalid line status after
init"
and then exists with a failure. At boot time the standard COM1
or ttyS0 is reported as being found. This used to work fine.
