I have a generic IDE-CD and Had simular problems with a lock, It more
than likly is from the new interrupt code.

my cdrom was on /dev/hdc with no /dev/hdd and when i booted prevous
kernels I got an

Mar 4 17:28:19 spike kernel: hdd: unexpected_intr: status=0xff

I checked my cd-rom and found that the jumper was missing, by putting a
jumper on master my problems went away including the unexpected interrupt
message.

hope this helps
