Build problems with 1.3.73 & 74

I installed the patch1.3.73 over 1.3.72. Then did make config & make dep;
make clean & make zdisk.

Would not build--got many messages about dependencies being bad (sorry, I
didn't write them down). The link failed with symbols unresolved.
Tried *all kinds of things*, but nothing worked--finally had to blow away
the entire linux directory tree, and reinstall from linux-1.3.69, and
patches up through 72.
72 built ok, so I patched to 73, built ok, patched to 74, built ok, but when
booted, get a kernal crash during bootup, right after disk partition checks.

Then re-installed 69, & patches to 72, but won't build again. I guess I'll
have to blow away the linux tree again.
