Multiple Cron Daemons running?

I have a system running Slackware V3.0 and I built a V1.3.52 kernel
for Adaptec 2940 support. Everything seems to work fine except that I see
multiple Crond daemons running. When the system initially boots one crond
daemon is running, but after one day of uptime:

spider:/# ps -aux | grep cron
root 50 0.0 1.1 812 356 ? S N 11:54 0:00 /usr/sbin/crond -l10
root 136 0.0 1.1 812 368 ? S N 11:55 0:00 /usr/sbin/crond -l10
root 137 0.0 1.1 812 372 ? S N 11:55 0:00 /usr/sbin/crond -l10
root 138 0.0 1.1 812 364 ? S N 11:55 0:00 /usr/sbin/crond -l10
root 173 0.0 1.1 812 364 ? S N 12:00 0:00 /usr/sbin/crond -l10
root 174 0.0 1.1 812 364 ? S N 12:00 0:00 /usr/sbin/crond -l10
root 1980 0.0 1.0 844 332 pp2 R N 11:39 0:00 grep cron

Any ideas on what might be causing this problem and what the fix
might
be?
