Multiple Localhost Socket connections?

I just installed Slackware V3.0 and built a V1.3.52 kernel for
Adaptec
2940 support.
When I do a "netstat -t" I see multiple localhost to localhost
socket connections and I have never seen this before. Is this normal? Why are
these socket connections showing up now?
