1.3.7.[23] IDE CMD670B problem

Friendly Kernel Hackers,

I have an interesting problem with my Compaq Presario (P90, CMD640, 2 IDE
drives, ATAPI CDrom and an ESS Audiodrive Sound card)

Under 1.3.71 everything was ok except the "double ack" tcp problem and
the socket destroyed bits.

As of 1.3.7[23] I had to disable CMD640 bug support in order to mount my
CDROM or use the disks heavily.

<ie. the following commands would lock up my system with no messages or OPPS>
cat /dev/hdc1 >/dev/null or cat /dev/hdb >/dev/null (or mount /cdrom) 8-)

Here is the rather large startup messages from the version(no CMD640
Support) that does work.
I have 2HDDs on different IDE busses, and the CD is chained on the first.
Thanks for any advice (other then replacing my machine 8-)
