I use kernel 1.3.72 (although this problem goes back to at least 1.3.42) with
scsi aha2940 support. In openwindows when I try to use scilab and run the
demos my machine completely locks with a black horizontal line arcross the
desktop.

I believe it is a kernel scsi problem because:

The machine COMPLETELY locks. ctrl-alt-bkspace won't quit openwin and I can't
get it to terminal switch with ctrl-alt-Fx.

The exact same installation of scilab works on the exact same machine with
the exact same kernel if it is running from an IDE drive.

I've tried to run scilab from two different scsi hard drives and it does the
exact same thing.

Any Ideas?

PS Is the mailer down? It can't be - people respond to my mailings. I don't
recieve a single linux-kernel mail though! It's been two weeks since I
subscribed - is the mailer that far overloaded?
