Linux 1.3.66: Problem with SCSI bus scan

I upgraded my Linux kernel to 1.3.66, followed by an upgrade to 1.3.68.
Since then, I am getting the following occasionally when the SCSI bus
is scanned (although sometimes the error happens on SCSI id 6):

In swapper task - not syncing

I never had this problem with 1.3.57 (which I was running before the
upgrade to 1.3.66). Here's what a successful scan looks like:
