bdflush/update no longer necessary?

Hello,

I have seen that in my new 1.3.63 kernel there is a kflushd already in
the kernel. The code in the kernel looks as if it could replace the old
update/bdflush daemon.

Is this true, i.e. is the update daemon no longer necessary to run?
Is it even obsolete now (race conditions, etc.)

I have joint this mailing list only recently, so maybe this was
already discussed here. If so, then ... In the HOWTOs I have not found
an answer.
