not a bug, a feature ;-)

to support ancient terminals that don't generate lowercase, Unix has
long (always?) supported a special case login in all upper case, and
assumed that you were using a *very* dumb terminal.

i'm not sure how it deals with the password algorithm in this case.

you might want to keep at least one lowercase letter in your login.
