kernel 1.3.37 breaks top!

As of kernel 1.3.37 top displays figures > 130000 in the SIZE column for
daemons and background processes. Is this a known problem that will be
fixed or does the top program need to be patched to accomodate a new
kernel feature? If the top program needs patching, can anyone expain what
was changed in the kernel so that I may try my hand at the top patch?
I've looked through the kernel patches but don't quite understand the
changes that were made to the /proc filesystem.
