weird kernel message

while recompiling my kernel, syslogd dumped the message:

kernel: IMPOSSIBLE 3

kinda hard to get a context on it, had a ppp link up, kernel
recompile going and a ftp session running. it didn't kill (or even slow
) anything, so I's really not all that sure what to make of it.
