1.3.28 ... compile hassles

Hmmm, don't have a lot of info about this and i don't know whether it's
been discussed yet or not.
Anyway, my problem is this.
1.3.28 will not compile unless i included support for some scsi devices.
It bombs out linking kernel.o with undefined references to scsi_dir, and
scsi_hba_dir.

I managed to compile it when i included generic scsi device support. But
this seems a bit superfluous when i don't actually have any scsi devices
in my box.

Also when compiled thusly i started to get some really weird probs with
VT corruption.
I'd run zgv <any graphic file>. it'd view OK but upon exiting all VT's
would be unreadable. No hangs, OOPses etc. but...
Still able to fire up X and other graphics apps and they were ok but text
VT's are cactus.
