I'm a little confused: on the uPD720201 Renesas Manual, section 6.2.3.1,
it says that:

"When the System Software updates the FW in the field, the System
Software shall not do Chip Erase."

Same is mentioned on section 6.3.4.

I don't really understand what they meant with "in the field", but I
don't see anything on the manual that says that one *must* erase the
External ROM before using it. Actually, the manual mentions two
"External ROM Image Data Block"s, where one must be erased in order to
write to it and the other is erased when Set DATA0 is set to 1b.

IMO we should only erase the ROM if recovery is needed (e.g. firmware
load fails).
