This latest patch (again, after fixing all the whitespace so it actually
applies), does the trick. Both
"qemu-system-x86_64 -machine pc,accel=kvm" and
"qemu-system-x86_64 -machine pc,accel=kvm -nodefaults" work for me
now without any of the aforementioned warnings from the host.
