Usually, "would newspaper be willing to print it" is used test for
"correct".

Well, a lot of kernel users/developers do not have English as first
language. Yes, documentation would use many improvements, but banning
word "he" does not seem like one of them. "They" convention is quite
confusing for non-native speakers...
