Justin,

I was able to get some verbose information from boot process on this
machine regarding aic7xxx (new) driver and AHA-2940UW2 with IBM 36LZX
10k rpm disk drive.Attached is 2 log files:

scsi_mod.max_scsi_luns=1 and scsi_mod.scsi_logging_level=0x140 as
suggested by Patrick

and

aic7xxx=verbose given to lilo boot loader

Hopefully you will be able to see what's happening when the adapter is
probed.
