PROBLEM: kernels 2.4.0.testX series crash when using mc

From: Alexander Kotelnikov (sacha@debian.org)
Date: Tue Aug 29 2000 - 06:31:29 EST

Here the decription goes

[1.] kernels 2.4.0.testX series crash when using mc
[2.] If an ordinal user use mc (Midnight Commander) with "internal view"
feature tuned ON and produce the following sequence of actions kernel
crashes without any messages sent to loggers.
     a) press F3 on a .bz2 file
     b) End button
     c) ? button (reverse search)
     d) any non-existent expression and Enter
     e) may be you should repeat d) several times
The problem was detected by Sergey Golod <rover@tobolsk.net.ru> and
"successfully" reproduced by Denis Petrusevich <santar@mail.ru> and me,
Alexander Kotelnikov <sacha@softjoys.ru>

Denis Petrusevich wrote, it could be seen, that mc eats all of memory and
swap and then computer hangs up. I've seen that my hdd is being accessed very
intensive.

Sergey Golod wrote, if SysRq is enabled and works it helps (Alt-SysRq-I, kill
all task except init) to make a regualar reboot.
