Yuck. It's nice to have an external program to tune up the engine.

But to require it if you want to get from "my laptop freezes when I
close the lid" to "my laptop works fine"? I think that should be in the
kernel, just as the IDE chipset and PCI chipset bug fixes are in the
kernel.
