So you remeber very well :)

I am using Creative Ensoniq AudioPCI 97 (ES1371) kernel 2.2.16
and it does play midi with kmid (KDE)!

With midi player there is some popup about /dev/sequencer
about being busy or something ...

Tested two days ago on some c64 midi music :)
