kernel boot from flash

I've been booting 2.3.99-xxx kernels from ram using blob for quite
awhile now. What, if anything, is required to make the kernel boot from
an arbitrary address in flash BESIDES changing ZTEXT in
arch/arm/boot/compressed/Makefile? Having done the latter I cannot even
get a character out of the serial port from head.S.

Thanks!
Chris
