Yes, it is possible to have a dedicated log device, although it is not
currently used. The ext3 JFS code is simply writing blocks to a file handle.
There are journal_init_file() and journal_init_dev() methods, but currently
only the journal_init_file() is called by ext3 code. However, I will
likely be making some changes to allow ext3 journalling to a device soon.
To be really useful (ala IBM JFS journal logical volumes), you need to be
able to journal multiple filesystems into a single device.
